At Winya Indigenous Commercial Furniture, our approach is more than just a business model; it’s a movement that bridges respect, sustainability, and empowerment. Established in 2015, Winya was founded by Debbie Barwick and a group of industry professionals committed to creating meaningful opportunities for Indigenous Australians and celebrating Indigenous culture through design.
The name Winya, meaning “to sit now” in Wiradjuri dialect, perfectly encapsulates our Ideals: to provide spaces where culture, community, and conscious design converge.
From the outset, we’ve remained a majority Indigenous-owned and controlled business, operating with a profit-for-purpose model and recognised as a leader in sustainability and social impact. Our growth is driven by our commitment to five guiding pillars – Indigenous Engagement, Sustainability Practices, Product Design & Development, Project Management, and Product Range – which shape everything we do. These pillars represent not just the work we deliver, but the way we engage with our community, the environment, and each other.

The travelling kangaroo track represents the strength in our movement forward towards making a beneficial change for people, culture and a positive impact at the heart of what we do.

Hand prints represent the respect and ownership we take in our responsibility for our environmental footprint. We make a difference with the materials we use, waste conversion and reducing landfill.

People and place represents our collaborative approach to understanding the needs and practicalities that our furniture ranges need to deliver to our clients. Custom and standard pieces are considered and tailored as needed.

The eagle track brings strength, protection as an overseer and guidance over the journey below. Offering an end to end solution, our team offers a full-service management solution to ensure your project runs as it should.

The Honey Ants site leads to the honey. Our diverse product range has expertly been curated to deliver ideal outcomes for our clients and their projects. Just as the honey ant works diligently to source the honey, as do we to ensure your product/project needs are met.
