In a pioneering effort to redefine banking environments, ANZ has embarked on a nationwide initiative to transform its branches into spaces that embody sustainability, community engagement, and cultural acknowledgment. Central to this transformation is the collaboration with Breathe Architecture and Winya Indigenous Furniture, aiming to create branch designs that are 100% carbon-neutral in operations and resonate with the local communities they serve.

The project, aptly named “ANZ Breathe,” is built upon a modular design system that allows each branch to be assembled like interlocking pieces, facilitating adaptability and scalability across various locations. This approach ensures that the design can be tailored to different spatial requirements while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic and functional standard.
Materials selected for the branches are natural, locally sourced, and environmentally friendly. The use of FSC-certified timbers, cork, recycled aluminum light fittings, and rubber flooring made from repurposed car tires underscores the commitment to sustainability. Additionally, the integration of abundant greenery through biophilic design principles enhances the mental and physical well-being of both staff and customers, creating a welcoming and calming atmosphere.
